Truly said that the BEST antivirus depends from person to person, the system configuration matters a lot. Bit Defender consumes higher memory , so its fit for high configuration systems, Talking about Linux, I suggest you try OpenSuse, I'm sure you will love the interface.

Its got to be Kaspersky for top spot, its the only one i will use and touch wood they havent let anything through in the last few years, im constantly on the net so it gets put to the test on many occasions.

Never liked McAfee or Norton, AVG free edition ive used when setting up a new pc for someone and its been fine but i always advise them to get Kaspersky later on.

UBUNTU is good. I have it on my laptop as a guest operating system installed inside virutalbox. ;-) If you want to get converted from being a Microsoft addict, then Ubuntu is a good place to start.

@Chukwudi
Using a virtual operating system poses no risk. Infact it is better because whatever happens to the Guest Operating System has zero effect on the Host Operating System. Also, you will not loose your downloads when you shut down. They are safe. The only issue is that of transferring them from the guest operating system to the host operating system so that you can still access them even when the guest operating system is shut down. I have been using VirtualBox for some time now, and I have had no issue with its performance. I guess that is why SunSystem bought it over.

How safe is it using a virtual operating system to browse. Won't you risk losing all your downloads when you shut down the computer?

When it comes to antivirus softwares that I've used, Kaspersky tops the list followed by AVG then Avira. AVAST sucks for me.
I'm currently using Avira cos unlike Kaspersky, it's free and unlike AVG, it doesn't consume loads of system memory ;)
